Teacher Focus
Teaching from 31st August-26th September 2008 Dina Cohen "I’ve been practicing many styles of movement, yoga and meditation for over 20 years, gradually moving away from a career in music journalism and PR (and too many late nights) to teach yoga full-time in London. Informed primarily by the Dynamic Yoga system of Godfrey Devereux, with whom I trained, my teaching is a blend of insights and knowledge picked up over the years from some of yoga’s leading lights including Sarah Powers, John Scott, Donna Farhi, Clive Sheridan and Leela Miller. I’ve travelled far and wide exploring different styles and practices including the mind blowing (literally) techniques of pranayama (breathing exercises) and the Buddhist teachings of mindfulness. I offer an integral practice fusing the power and dynamism of ashtanga with the precision of iyengar and the softness and stillness of yin yoga, designed to tone the body, soothe the mind and nourish the soul. At Ibizayoga the extended class time will allow for a gentle warm-up followed by a few yin postures, cultivating breath and body awareness and releasing hips and lower back. This will slowly build into a more energetic sequence based on the Ashtanga primary series, synchronising breath and movement and developing strength, stamina and flexibility. Each posture is presented in a step-by-step format, accessible to beginners, with an emphasis on safety. As confidence and mastery grow, more challenging variations will be offered, focusing on alignment and the internal dynamics of each shape. Sessions gradually wind down into a deep and replenishing relaxation, calming the nervous system and preparing us for a short meditation."
